Jonesboro, Arkansas – Arkansas State University is working to regain a sense of calm after a late-night shooting on campus left four people injured and prompted an active investigation by the Arkansas State Police.

Authorities say the incident happened around midnight on Sunday at Unity Park, a gathering area on the university campus. What began as a social event quickly turned chaotic when gunfire erupted, sending students and attendees running for safety.

According to investigators, one woman was struck in the leg during the shooting. Three others also suffered injuries while trying to flee the scene. Officials noted that these additional injuries were minor and occurred as people scattered in panic.

University officials confirmed that three of the four injured individuals are students at Arkansas State University. One person received treatment at the scene, while the others were transported to a hospital for further care. All four victims are now reported to be in stable condition.

Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At this stage, officials have not released details about a suspect or possible motive. However, university leaders believe the incident was isolated and not part of a broader threat to campus safety.

Even so, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared with university police or directly with Arkansas State Police at (870) 935-7303.

In response to the incident, Arkansas State University issued a statement expressing concern for those affected and reassuring the campus community.

“We are grateful that no lives were lost in this incident. Our thoughts are with those who were injured and their families.

We understand that incidents like this can be unsettling for our campus community. Students who may need support are encouraged to contact the University Counseling Center during normal operating hours. After hours, students can request to be connected to the on-call counselor by contacting University Police.

Our strength as a university lies in our close-knit campus and the way we care for one another. We encourage everyone to stay connected and support each other in the days ahead.”

The message reflects the university’s focus on emotional support in the aftermath of the shooting, as students and staff process what happened. Counseling services have been made available for those seeking help, and campus police remain present to maintain safety and answer concerns.

While the investigation continues, students have been left shaken by the sudden violence in what is typically considered a safe and familiar gathering space. Unity Park, where the shooting occurred, is often used for social events and informal student gatherings.

As law enforcement works to determine how the incident unfolded, university officials are emphasizing community support and vigilance. For now, the campus is focused on recovery, communication, and ensuring that students feel safe returning to their daily routines.

Arkansas State Police have not yet announced further details, but the investigation remains active.
