For the first time since snow forced their doors to close, businesses in central Arkansas are open

Little Rock, Arkansas – For the first time since the snow began to fall on Thursday, a few Central Arkansas businesses are opening.

On Saturday, Little Rock’s Mugs Cafe reopened for business. The time away was bittersweet, according to barista Karter Braziel.

“We’re happy that it’s snowing today, you know. On the other hand, that is terrible. We all require money in order to sustain ourselves, Braziel stated.

Some local companies managed to remain open despite having to close.

“The snow brought the crowds,” said Jared Teague, manager of Hill Station.

As everyone wants to get out, walk in the snow, and stop in for a drink, Teague stated, “We’ve had nothing but great business, and that tends to happen when it snows here.”

In order to ensure everyone’s safety in the ice circumstances, Teague acknowledged that being open did require more labor.

“To make sure it was safe for people and not a slipping hazard to get in and out, we shovel the sidewalk and the entrances and put a little salt down,” Teague explained.

They anticipate that this week will go according to plan, whether it was their first day back or simply their first day of seeing the snow melt.

Braziel remarked, “Today was the first day we had a relatively normal amount of people come in; we had almost none.”
