Arkansas Tech University holds special ceremony to honor veterans and celebrate their service to the nation

Russellville, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech University honored those who have served in the United States Armed Forces with a Veterans Day ceremony held on Monday, November 11. The event took place at the flagpole between Tucker Coliseum and the Doc Bryan Student Services Center, drawing students, faculty, and community members who gathered to show appreciation for the nation’s veterans.

The ceremony was organized by the ATU Office of Veteran Services, which provides ongoing support to military-affiliated students and their families. University officials said the annual event serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who have defended the country’s freedoms.

Five cadets from the Arkansas Tech U.S. Army ROTC program played a central role in the ceremony, serving as the color guard. The group included Bryce Branscum of Augusta, Roemon Christian of Crossett, Nathan Fisher of Van Buren, Allen Neece of Little Rock, and George Sindland of Lead Hill. Together, they raised the American flag as attendees stood in quiet respect.

Adding to the ceremony’s solemn atmosphere, ATU student Kris Campbell of Alma performed the national anthem on trumpet. The moving rendition filled the air as the flag reached full staff, creating a moment of reflection for those in attendance.

University officials said the event was not only a tribute to service members of the past and present but also a way to remind students of the ongoing importance of civic duty and gratitude. Many in the crowd expressed appreciation for the opportunity to come together in recognition of veterans and active-duty personnel alike.

Arkansas Tech’s commitment to honoring veterans extends beyond this annual ceremony. The Office of Veteran Services continues to assist military students with educational benefits, career planning, and community connections throughout the year.
