Arkansas State Police launch investigation into Rockport homicide

Rockport, Arkansas – A tragic shooting in Rockport on Sunday afternoon has left one woman dead and her husband in police custody. The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has launched an investigation following a request from the Rockport Police Department.

Authorities say the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on February 23, 2025, in the 1700 block of Division Street. Officers with the Rockport Police Department (RPD) responded to reports of gunfire at a residence, where they discovered 50-year-old Marisela McHan dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Neighbors reported hearing loud arguing earlier in the day, though no one suspected the situation would escalate to violence. Witnesses described Marisela as a kind and caring woman who was well-known in the community, making the tragedy even more shocking for those who knew her.

Her husband, 51-year-old Floyd McHan, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He has since been transported to the Hot Spring County Detention Center, where he faces charges of First-Degree Murder and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. Details regarding the minors involved have not been released.

Authorities have not yet provided a motive for the shooting. However, investigators are exploring the possibility of a domestic dispute that turned deadly. The Arkansas State Crime Lab will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Investigators remain on the scene, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Detectives are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting, and police have not disclosed whether there were any prior reports of domestic disturbances at the residence.

Local residents expressed their concerns over domestic violence issues and the need for more community support and intervention in potentially volatile situations. Many have taken to social media, expressing their condolences for Marisela’s family and emphasizing the importance of seeking help in troubled relationships.

Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest details could help bring clarity to the case. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Rockport Police Department or the Arkansas State Police.
