Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders approves $250,000 in emergency relief ahead of expected storms, tornadoes, and flooding across the state

Little Rock, Arkansas – With severe weather looming, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has taken swift action to ensure Arkansas is prepared for the impact. On April 2, 2025, the governor signed an executive order allocating emergency funds to help communities brace for expected storms, tornadoes, and flooding.

The order, known as EO 25-07, authorizes the release of $250,000 from the Governor’s Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. The funding will be directed to the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management to assist with both program and administrative costs as the state responds to the anticipated destruction.

“On or about April 2, 2025, severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding are expected to occur in Arkansas, and continue thereafter, which may cause danger, hardship, and suffering throughout the state, which in turn, warrants this executive action,” the order states.

This preemptive measure aims to provide vital support to local governments and residents who may be affected by the expected extreme weather. Sanders emphasized the importance of being proactive in addressing potential disasters, citing the need to protect both citizens and public infrastructure.

“Adverse circumstances may be brought to bear upon citizens and public properties in the State of Arkansas,” the order continues. “Affected political subdivisions may require supplemental assistance from the state to recover from these losses.”

Meteorologists have warned that Arkansas could face significant weather disruptions, with high winds, heavy rainfall, and potential tornado outbreaks threatening homes, businesses, and essential services. Local emergency responders are already making preparations to mitigate damage and ensure public safety.

By declaring a state of emergency in advance, the governor’s office hopes to streamline the response process and allow resources to be deployed as efficiently as possible. The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management is expected to coordinate closely with county and municipal officials to assess the situation and allocate funding where it is most needed.

Governor Sanders’ executive order comes as part of a broader commitment to disaster preparedness in Arkansas. Recent years have seen an increase in severe weather incidents, prompting state officials to refine their emergency response strategies. The newly allocated funds will bolster efforts to minimize the impact on affected communities.

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, acting under the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Arkansas, and pursuant to Ark. Code Ann. §§ 12-75-101, et seq., do hereby declare a state of emergency and direct the sum of $250,000.00 to be obligated from the Governor’s Disaster Response and Recovery Fund,” the order concludes.

The governor’s office encourages Arkansans to stay informed and take necessary precautions ahead of the storms. Officials are advising residents to secure their properties, prepare emergency kits, and have evacuation plans in place if needed. As the weather event unfolds, further assistance and resources may be made available depending on the level of impact across the state.
