Little Rock, Arkansas – As the federal government shutdown continues to leave thousands of employees without paychecks, the Arkansas Foodbank is stepping up to provide much-needed relief. The organization announced that it will host two special food distributions in October to help government workers and their families who are feeling the financial strain.
The emergency food distributions will take place in two locations — Little Rock and Cabot — offering families access to essential food items during this uncertain time. The first event is scheduled for Friday, October 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport Cargo Port, located at 1000 Temple Street in Little Rock. The second will follow on Tuesday, October 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hope’s Closet Food Pantry, 2535 Rockwood Drive in Cabot.
The Arkansas Foodbank stated that government employees affected by the shutdown can receive emergency food boxes by presenting a valid government ID at either location. No income verification will be required, ensuring quick and easy access for those in need. Each box will include a mix of non-perishable items, pantry staples, and other essentials designed to help families get through this challenging period.
“Right now, too many hardworking public servants are struggling to put food on the table through no fault of their own,” said a Foodbank spokesperson. “Our goal is to make sure that no family has to choose between paying bills and eating during this shutdown.”
The organization has been a critical lifeline for Arkansas communities, especially during times of crisis. With the government shutdown causing delays in pay for thousands of workers across the state, the Foodbank’s efforts are providing much-needed hope and stability.
Volunteers and community partners are also being called upon to help with the upcoming distributions. The Foodbank encourages anyone who wants to contribute—whether through time, food donations, or financial support—to get involved and make a difference.
