Saline County, Arkansas – The Saline County Fairgrounds were shut down Tuesday afternoon after a major structural failure caused the roof of the arena to collapse under the weight of ice and snow. County officials confirmed the closure following what they described as a catastrophic incident that left the building unsafe for use.
According to authorities, the collapse happened after prolonged winter weather placed an excessive load on the arena’s roof. Surveillance video from inside the facility captured the moment one of the steel support beams gave way, triggering a chain reaction that led to the roof’s failure. The footage has since been reviewed by officials as part of the initial assessment.
Photos taken after the collapse show extensive damage inside the arena. Twisted metal, fallen roofing materials, and debris now cover the interior space, highlighting the force of the failure. Fortunately, the collapse occurred in the afternoon when no events were taking place, and no injuries have been reported.

Saline County Judge Matt Brumley said county leaders moved quickly to coordinate a response. He confirmed that officials met with members of the Saline County Fair Board, the Office of Emergency Management, Benton Police, and the Saline County Sheriff’s Office to evaluate the damage and determine next steps.
The focus of those discussions included public safety, structural assessments, and how to manage upcoming activities traditionally hosted at the fairgrounds. As a precaution, the entire fairgrounds property has been closed until further notice while officials work through the situation.
All scheduled events at the arena have been canceled, including those planned for February. Fair officials are now reviewing how to handle upcoming dates and whether events can be relocated or postponed as repairs and inspections move forward.
