Little Rock, Arkansas – After a broken pipe devastated her daycare last year, the owner of Kiddie Academy of Little Rock was celebrating her reopening until misfortune struck once more.
She used a security camera app on her phone to see it all while she was out of town.
“The sprinkler system broke around the same time last year, destroying the entire academy and taking everything out,” said Abbey Oluwa, owner of Kiddie Academy of Little Rock.
Damaged books, toys, desks, seats, even walls and ceilings.
“It was really costly. Financially, we haven’t recovered from that yet,” Oluwa stated.
A few months ago, Oluwa reopened the daycare after rebuilding it piece by piece.
She was commemorating the one-year anniversary of the tragedy on Wednesday when she heard a sound.
Oluwa remarked, “I hurried to see what happened, and it was the same incident, the sprinkler system broke.”
This time, however, things were different because she was present and understood what to do, quickly cutting the building’s water supply.
Teachers in the daycare followed the fire drill protocol to evacuate the children.
“We had over 150 kids when the incident happened (last year), and as of yesterday, we didn’t even have 30,” Oluwa stated.
Since not every classroom was being used, Oluwa claims that having a small number was a blessing.
According to her, the pupils were actually on the other side of the building from the pipe burst location.
Oluwa remarked, “Just to know that everything you have invested could go down in a little time.”
She claims that by keeping the daycare open and running on the unaffected side, she will rebuild it and continue to care for her children.
To make things go more quickly this time, Oluwa stated, “We are going to start ordering all of the stuff all over again.”
Oluwa tells others to be alert and claims she took all the necessary steps.
