Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansas State Police will have more troopers patrolling the Arkansas State Fair this year, with Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies and Little Rock police officers also helping provide security.
The fair runs Oct. 16-25. Ahead of Friday’s opening, authorities are encouraging visitors to check admission requirements and restrictions before heading to the fairgrounds.
“The Arkansas State Fair is a tradition that brings families and communities together, and we want every visit to be a safe one,” said Col. Mike Hagar, ASP Director. “We encourage fairgoers to review security policies before arriving, stay aware of their surroundings, and notify an officer or fair security staff member if they see something concerning.”

Everyone entering the grounds must pass through a metal detector and have their bags inspected. Bags cannot exceed 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches, and several types are prohibited regardless of the size limit.
Those include backpacks, even clear ones, along with drawstring bags, fanny packs, mesh bags, oversized totes, briefcases, luggage and computer bags. Binocular and camera cases, tinted plastic bags and plastic bags with printed patterns are also prohibited.
Weapons are not allowed, whether carried openly or concealed. The restriction also applies to concealed weapons permit holders. Pocketknives, chains, spikes and other items considered a safety concern are banned.
Visitors must also leave behind selfie sticks, outside food and drinks, Segways and drones. Tents are permitted only as part of an authorized act or exhibit.

Pets are generally prohibited, with exceptions for service animals, pets leashed on the campgrounds and animals participating in authorized acts or exhibits. Service animals must comply with state regulations.
Additional admission requirements take effect after 6 p.m. Anyone younger than 18 must enter with an adult who is at least 21. The policy states that minors without identification or an accompanying adult will not be admitted during those hours.
Adults accompanying young visitors may be asked to present valid identification confirming their age.
For families with children, ID wristbands will be available at the gate. The wristbands are intended to help reunite parents and children if they become separated during their visit.
