Fire burns about four acres of woods near Big Rock Interchange in Little Rock

Little Rock, Arkansas – A fire burned roughly four acres of woods near the Big Rock Interchange early Tuesday morning, sending smoke into the area around Interstates 430 and 630. No injuries or damage to structures were reported.

The Little Rock Fire Department sent four units to the scene in west Little Rock. Officials placed the burned area just west of Baptist Health Medical Center, near the interchange where the two interstates meet.

Flames were visible on Arkansas Department of Transportation traffic cameras around 5 a.m. The cameras provided an early view of the fire, while smoke could also be seen around the nearby highways. That observation establishes when the fire was visible, though officials have not provided an exact time when it began.

By about 8 a.m., crews reported that they were putting out remaining hot spots. Firefighters were still working in the affected area at that point, roughly three hours after flames could be seen on the traffic cameras.

The department estimated that around four acres had burned. The reported damage was confined to the wooded area, with no structures reported damaged despite the fire’s location near the medical center and the busy interstate junction.

The morning response involved four fire department units, but officials did not provide further details about the personnel or equipment used. The information released focused on the location, the estimated acreage burned and the crews’ efforts to extinguish the remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire has not been announced. Officials have also not released details explaining how the flames began or spread through the woods.

The latest update described firefighters continuing to address hot spots around 8 a.m., rather than announcing a final departure from the scene. No later completion time was included in the information provided. With no injuries or structural damage reported, the known impact remained approximately four acres of burned woodland.
