Little Rock, Arkansas – As the Arkansas State Fair gets closer, Queen Emily Mooney is helping build excitement for the annual event while encouraging people across the state to take part in several activities connected to the fair.
The Arkansas State Fair is scheduled to begin Oct. 16, and Mooney has been making appearances and promoting events as part of her role as the fair’s queen. Her responsibilities extend beyond the days when the fairgrounds are filled with visitors, rides and competitions.
Mooney said she first became involved in pageants while competing alongside her daughter. That experience eventually led her to a role in which she now represents the Arkansas State Fair throughout the year and helps promote its activities at events around the state.
One of the efforts Mooney is highlighting ahead of this year’s fair is the annual cereal drive benefiting the Arkansas Foodbank. Organizers are hoping the community will help them beat last year’s total, when 10,000 boxes of cereal were collected.
The drive adds a charitable element to the preparations for the fair and gives people an opportunity to contribute before the main festivities begin. The effort also remains one of the fair-related activities Mooney is helping bring attention to as the Oct. 16 opening approaches.
The upcoming fair will offer more than the traditional attractions associated with the event. Several competitions are planned, giving participants of different ages opportunities to take part.
Pageants will be among the scheduled activities, continuing an important part of the fair’s traditions. A youth competition is also planned, along with a talent showcase that will offer a $1,000 grand prize.
For Mooney, promoting those opportunities is part of representing the fair throughout the year. Her involvement gives her a chance to encourage participation while also helping keep attention focused on the charitable and competitive events taking place around the fair.
