Jefferson County, Arkansas – A 55-year-old registered sex offender is in custody following an investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office that resulted in multiple felony charges, including rape and incest.
Deputies arrested Lyle Young shortly after 6 a.m. on Sept. 22 in connection with the investigation. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Young was charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, rape, sexual indecency with a minor and incest.
The arrest followed an investigation by the agency’s Criminal Investigation Division into a reported rape. As part of the case, investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 300 block of Ussery Road in Jefferson.
Major Dennis Kendall said investigators had been working on the case before moving forward with the arrest and search of the property.
“It’s still in the early stages of the investigation,” said Kendall. “They had enough to arrest him on probable cause, and then they had enough to get a search warrant for the house in reference to this case, ultimately executing the warrant this morning, and he was subsequently taken into custody.”
Deputies executed the search warrant at the residence on the morning of Sept. 22. Young was then taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office also arrested a second person at the residence. Rebecca Burton, 28, faces four charges in connection with the investigation. Those charges are kidnapping, first-degree false imprisonment, permitting child abuse and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
The arrests came as investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the reported rape and other allegations. Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged victim or provided further information about the evidence gathered during the investigation.
Officials said the case remains active, and the investigation is continuing.
The charges against Young and Burton are allegations, and the arrests do not by themselves establish guilt. Both cases will proceed through the criminal justice system as investigators continue their work.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has not indicated whether additional arrests or charges are expected. As the investigation develops, detectives may continue reviewing evidence collected from the residence and other information related to the case.
The search warrant and subsequent arrests represent the latest steps in the investigation, which began with the Criminal Investigation Division examining a reported rape. Authorities said the investigation was sufficiently developed for deputies to establish probable cause for Young’s arrest and to obtain a warrant to search the residence.
For now, Young remains in custody on the listed charges, while Burton also faces multiple charges related to allegations involving a minor.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing.
