Russellville, Arkansas – A popular fall music event is returning to Mount Nebo later this month as Arkansas Tech University and Mount Nebo State Park prepare to host the 21st annual Brass in the Clouds concert.
The free outdoor performance is scheduled for Sept. 26 at Sunset Point on Mount Nebo. The concert is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., giving visitors a chance to enjoy live music while taking in the views from the mountain.
Brass in the Clouds has become a yearly event for Arkansas Tech’s Department of Music and the state park. The concert first took place in 2005 and has continued each year with one exception. The event was not held in 2020.
This year’s program will bring together several Arkansas Tech student ensembles, with each group performing under the direction or leadership of members of the university’s music faculty.
The ATU Trumpet Ensemble will perform under the direction of T.J. Perry, DMA. The ATU Horn Ensemble will be led by Erin Futterer, DMA, while the ATU Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble will perform under the direction of Sam Revis, DMA.
The ATU Trombone Choir, directed by Sean Reed, DMA, will also take part in the evening concert.
With several brass ensembles scheduled to perform, the event will showcase different sections of the university’s music program in an outdoor setting. The combination of live performances and the location at Sunset Point has helped make Brass in the Clouds a distinctive event on the Arkansas Tech calendar.
Because the concert will take place outdoors, Mount Nebo State Park officials are advising people who plan to attend to come prepared for the seating arrangement. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs.
The performance is free, so attendees will not need to purchase a ticket to enjoy the concert. For those looking for an evening of music in an outdoor setting, the Sept. 26 event will offer an opportunity to hear Arkansas Tech’s brass ensembles at one of the area’s scenic locations.
