Arkansas – Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who now serves as the U.S. ambassador to Israel, is working with Israeli tourism officials on efforts to bring more American travelers back to the country.
Huckabee recently met with members of the Israel Tourism Recovery Forum as officials discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Israel and the U.S. travel industry. The meeting focused on increasing American visitation, improving air connections and supporting Israel’s efforts to rebuild its tourism sector.
Tourism officials said the United States remains Israel’s largest international tourism market, making American travelers an important part of the country’s recovery. Rebuilding confidence among U.S. visitors and strengthening ties with American travel businesses were among the issues discussed during the meeting.
Officials also looked at air service between the two countries. Direct flights are viewed as an important part of making travel to Israel more accessible to Americans and helping the tourism industry recover.

“Expanding direct air connectivity between the United States and Israel is essential to accelerating the recovery of inbound tourism,” Israel Ministry of Tourism Director General Michael Itzhakov said. “The Ministry is actively working with airline partners to encourage the return of existing routes and the launch of new connections that will make it easier for more Americans to experience Israel.”
The effort comes as Israeli tourism officials seek to restore the country’s position as a major international travel destination. Increasing the number of visitors from the United States is a key part of that goal because of the size and importance of the American travel market.
During his meeting with tourism representatives, Huckabee indicated that he plans to continue promoting travel to Israel. The former Arkansas governor said he would serve as an ambassador for Israel wherever he goes and encourage Americans to visit the country themselves.
