Turrell, Arkansas – A commercial vehicle fire on Interstate 55 near Turrell caused traffic disruptions Sunday afternoon before the roadway was cleared later in the evening, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

The incident was reported at approximately 3:56 p.m. on the right shoulder of I-55 near the 24-mile marker. The location is in the Turrell area, where the fire involving the commercial vehicle drew attention from motorists traveling along the interstate.

An ARDOT traffic camera showed what appeared to be a tractor-trailer engulfed in flames. The footage indicated that the vehicle was burning on the shoulder of the highway, although details about how the fire started were not immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. It was also unclear what the commercial vehicle was carrying at the time of the incident.

The fire occurred during the afternoon, potentially creating additional concerns for drivers approaching the area. Emergency and transportation officials responded to the scene while the vehicle fire was being handled.

By 8:33 p.m., however, officials reported that the roads were clear. No additional details about injuries or other vehicles being involved were provided in the information released about the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation, and authorities have not said what may have caused the tractor-trailer to catch fire.

The incident serves as another reminder for drivers on Interstate 55 to use caution when approaching emergency scenes, particularly when vehicles are stopped along the shoulder.

Commercial vehicle fires can quickly create hazardous conditions, especially on a busy interstate where passing traffic is moving at highway speeds.

With the roadway cleared Sunday night, normal traffic conditions were expected to resume in the area.
