Dardanelle , Arkansas – Authorities are investigating after the body of a man was discovered in the Arkansas River near the Dardanelle Lock and Dam on Saturday, prompting a response from multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to the Dardanelle Police Department, officers were called to the scene at approximately 12:30 p.m. after receiving reports that a male body was floating in the river just downstream from the lock and dam. Emergency responders recovered the body from the water before determining that the location of the discovery fell outside the city’s jurisdiction.
Because the incident occurred beyond Dardanelle city limits, responsibility for the investigation was transferred to the Yell County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities are now working to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Officials said there is currently no indication of foul play. Investigators have not released the identity of the deceased or provided additional information about how long the body may have been in the water.

The discovery occurred in an area that has drawn public attention in recent weeks. The location is just upstream from the boat ramp where 20-year-old Ashlynn Bocksnick was last seen entering the Arkansas River with her 6-week-old daughter on June 25. That earlier incident prompted an extensive search involving numerous emergency response agencies.
At this time, authorities have not indicated that the latest discovery is connected to the previous case. Investigators have released no information suggesting any relationship between the two incidents.
Law enforcement officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding Saturday’s recovery and are expected to await the results of the medical examiner’s investigation before providing further details. The cause and manner of death have not yet been announced.
The Dardanelle Police Department assisted with the initial response after the body was reported, while the Yell County Sheriff’s Department assumed control of the investigation because the recovery site was outside municipal boundaries.
Officials have not announced whether additional information will be released in the coming days. As the investigation continues, authorities are asking the public to allow investigators time to complete their work before drawing conclusions about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
