Park Plaza launches summer school supplies drive to support students in need ahead of upcoming school year in Little Rock

Little Rock, Arkansas – Park Plaza has kicked off a community-focused initiative aimed at helping students prepare for the upcoming school year through a summer-long school supplies collection drive.

The campaign, titled “Back to School, Back to Giving,” will run through August 1 and is part of the mall’s broader “250 Acts of Community” effort, which celebrates America250 through local acts of service and engagement.

Organizers say the goal is simple but important: gather new school supplies for students who may not have easy access to essential classroom materials. Community members are encouraged to participate by donating a wide range of items that students regularly use in school.

Drop-off locations have been set up inside the mall to make contributions convenient. Donations can be left during regular mall hours at two designated spots — Level 1 near the food court and Level 2 near Zales. For those bringing larger quantities, the Park Plaza office is also accepting donations Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The list of needed items covers basic educational tools as well as everyday classroom necessities. Requested supplies include backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, folders, glue sticks, disinfecting wipes, tissues, headphones, and other essential learning materials. Organizers emphasize that all donated items must be new.

The initiative has drawn attention not just as a seasonal charity effort, but as part of a larger push to encourage community involvement. Park Plaza’s “250 Acts of Community” program is designed to highlight small but meaningful contributions that collectively support local families and students.

While summer is still in full swing, organizers say preparation for the school year often begins early for many families. Rising costs for school supplies can place added pressure on households, making donation drives like this one especially valuable.

All collected items will be distributed during Park Plaza’s Back-to-School Bash scheduled for 2 p.m. on August 1. The event is expected to serve as both a celebration and a distribution point, bringing together families, donors, and community partners.

Mall officials hope the drive will help ensure that students start the school year with the tools they need to succeed. They also encourage continued participation throughout the duration of the campaign, noting that every contribution, large or small, can make a difference.

As the drive continues over the coming weeks, Park Plaza is positioning the effort as a shared community project — one that connects shoppers, local residents, and organizations in support of education and student readiness for the year ahead.
