Construction of new roundabout at Salem Rd and Meadowlake Rd is scheduled to begin June 1 as traffic changes are expected in the area

Conway, Arkansas – Construction is set to start soon on a new roundabout at the intersection of Salem Road and Meadowlake Road, with the project officially beginning on June 1. The Conway Transportation Department says the work is part of a broader effort to improve traffic flow and enhance safety in the area, which has seen steady use from daily commuters and local residents.

As crews move in, changes to traffic patterns will begin immediately. Meadowlake Road will be closed to all traffic at Anita Lane starting June 1. Drivers will not be able to pass through this section during the construction period. Salem Road, however, will remain open, although motorists should expect a reduced speed limit while traveling through the active work zone.

Officials explain that the closure is necessary to give construction crews a safer environment to work in. With fewer vehicles passing directly through the intersection, workers will have more space to operate heavy equipment and complete the roundabout more efficiently. The decision is also expected to help shorten the overall construction timeline.

The project is moving forward with a clear seasonal target. Weather permitting, the goal is to reopen the intersection to through traffic before the start of the new school year on August 17. That deadline is important for local families, school transportation routes, and daily commuters who rely on the corridor.

“We understand this closure will affect drivers in the area, and we appreciate the public’s patience as this work moves forward.” Officials are encouraging motorists to plan ahead and adjust their travel routines during the construction period.

Drivers are also being urged to slow down near the work zone, stay alert for changing traffic conditions, and allow extra travel time when passing through nearby roads. Even small delays are expected as equipment and crews operate close to moving traffic.

While the short-term disruption may be inconvenient, transportation officials say the long-term benefit will be a smoother and safer intersection designed to handle traffic more efficiently in the years ahead.
