Little Rock, Arkansas – The sounds of conversation, live activity and early morning shopping returned to downtown Little Rock on Saturday as the Little Rock Farmers Market officially opened its 52nd season beneath the River Market pavilions.
For decades, the market has served as more than a place to buy vegetables or handmade goods. It has become a weekend tradition for families, farmers and local artisans across central Arkansas. This season, organizers expect more than 50 vendors to participate, filling the downtown space with fresh produce, baked items, crafts and locally made products.
The market will continue operating every Saturday through Aug. 1, offering residents and visitors a chance to support local businesses while enjoying one of the city’s longest-running community events.
Among the familiar faces returning this year is Carpenter’s Produce, a family operation with deep roots in the market’s history. For them, opening day represents far more than another business weekend. It is part of a tradition stretching back nearly half a century.
“We are very excited to come out and set up. We look forward to it every year because we have wonderful customers,” said Jacqueline Carpenter of Carpenter’s Produce.
That sense of loyalty and connection continues to define the farmers market experience. Many shoppers return year after year to buy from the same growers and makers, building relationships that often last generations. Vendors, meanwhile, rely on the market not only for sales but also for community interaction and visibility.
Walking through the pavilions Saturday morning, visitors could browse tables stacked with colorful vegetables, seasonal fruits and homemade items crafted by local artists. The atmosphere carried a mix of energy and familiarity — longtime vendors greeting regular customers while new visitors explored the rows for the first time.
Market officials also emphasized accessibility this season, noting that many participating vendors accept SNAP benefits. The effort helps expand access to fresh, locally grown food for families throughout the community while supporting regional farmers at the same time.
As the season begins once again, the Little Rock Farmers Market remains one of downtown’s most enduring attractions — a place where agriculture, small business and community spirit continue to meet every Saturday morning.
