Conway, Arkansas – The University of Central Arkansas is rolling out a new digital learning opportunity aimed at giving students, alumni, and faculty a stronger edge in today’s competitive job market, as higher education continues to shift toward skills-based training and flexible online learning.

The University of Central Arkansas College of Business announced Thursday the launch of the Coursera Career Academy, a program designed to expand access to professional development resources at no additional cost for members of its academic community. The initiative connects learners to a wide range of online courses, certifications, and micro-credentials built to match current industry demands.

Through the partnership with Coursera, UCA students, faculty, staff, and now alumni will be able to take advantage of career-focused training programs that cover business, technology, and emerging workplace skills. The platform features coursework and certificates from major global companies, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce, IBM, and Meta, along with hundreds of additional educational partners.

University officials say the goal is simple but significant: help learners strengthen their resumes and improve job readiness in a labor market that increasingly values certified skills alongside traditional degrees.

“In today’s competitive job market, employers are more likely to hire a graduate who has also earned a professional certificate or micro-credentials,” said Tim Bisping, dean of the College of Business and professor of economics. “We are excited to strengthen employment outcomes for our students and alumni by launching this tool at no additional cost to our college’s community. Going forward, our college faculty will also use Coursera to supplement our courses, enhancing the learning experience for our business students. By connecting our students and alumni with this platform, we are strategically addressing emerging skills in business and technology, inviting our students and alumni to drive innovation and continue to pursue the lifelong learning that is essential for career success.”

The academy officially began rollout during the 2026 semester, initially targeting business majors, faculty, and staff. Following its early implementation, the program has now expanded access to include College of Business alumni, extending learning opportunities beyond graduation.

University leaders say this expanded access reflects a broader shift in higher education, where lifelong learning and continuous skill development are becoming essential for professional growth. Instead of limiting training to classroom instruction alone, institutions are increasingly turning to online platforms to complement traditional coursework.

One of the key features of the Coursera Career Academy is its flexibility. Learners can choose from short, skill-specific modules or pursue longer certification paths depending on their career goals. The system also allows users to learn at their own pace, making it easier for working professionals and alumni to participate without disrupting their schedules.

According to Coursera’s 2025 Outcomes Report, 91% of learners reported achieving a positive career outcome after using the platform, a statistic university leaders point to as evidence of its potential impact.

For UCA, the partnership is also part of a larger effort to ensure graduates remain competitive in fields that are rapidly evolving due to technology and automation. By integrating certifications and micro-credentials into academic life, the College of Business hopes to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world expectations.

The program also allows faculty members to incorporate Coursera content directly into their courses, giving students exposure to industry-driven material while still enrolled in their degree programs. This hybrid approach is expected to enhance classroom learning and better prepare students for internships and job placements.

Alumni participation marks another important step, as graduates often seek ways to stay connected to new industry trends after leaving campus. With continued access to training resources, UCA aims to support career growth long after commencement.

More information about the Coursera Career Academy and enrollment details is available through the University of Central Arkansas College of Business website.
