Butler County, Arkansas – Drivers in Butler County will need to prepare for a long-term detour this spring and summer as state transportation officials move forward with a major bridge replacement project that will shut down a rural roadway for several months.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that Route AA will be fully closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 18. The closure will affect the stretch of roadway between County Roads 621 and 629 in the community of Broseley.
According to officials, the shutdown is necessary to allow crews to replace two bridges located over Drainage Ditches 1 and 10. The work is part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance aimed at improving safety and long-term reliability for local drivers who depend on the route.
Once the closure begins, Route AA will remain inaccessible to traffic until construction is fully completed. The project is currently scheduled to wrap up by September 30, meaning the roadway could be closed for more than four months depending on progress and weather conditions.
During this period, a marked detour will be established to guide motorists around the construction zone. Transportation officials are encouraging drivers to follow all posted detour signs and allow extra travel time when passing through the area.
Authorities also stressed the importance of caution near construction zones, especially in rural areas where visibility and road conditions can change quickly. Drivers are being asked to slow down and stay alert while using alternate routes.
The Missouri Department of Transportation provided additional contact information for residents seeking updates or more details about the project. Travelers can call 1-888-ASK-MODOT or visit www.modot.org/southeast for further information.
While the closure may create temporary inconvenience for local commuters, officials say the bridge replacement work is necessary to maintain safe transportation infrastructure in the region. The upgrades are expected to improve long-term reliability for vehicles traveling through this part of Butler County.
As construction gets underway in mid-May, residents and drivers in and around Broseley are being urged to plan ahead and adjust their travel routines accordingly until the project is completed later in the year.
