Little Rock, Arkansas – Jordan Smith Jr., a highly touted University of Arkansas basketball commit, was named one of three finalists for the 2025-26 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award Friday morning. The prestigious award recognizes high school athletes nationwide for excellence not only on the court but also in academics and community involvement, joining a legacy of elite players including Jayson Tatum, Cooper Flagg, and Cameron Boozer.

Smith Jr., a 6-foot-2, 200-pound guard from Virginia, emerged as one of the top prospects in the nation. He chose to commit to the Arkansas Razorbacks over other major programs including Duke, Syracuse, Indiana, and Georgetown, adding significant talent to the Razorbacks’ 2026 recruiting class.

The other finalists for the award are Missouri commit Jason Crowe Jr. and Duke commit Cameron Williams, highlighting the national competition among some of the country’s best high school players. Smith Jr.’s selection as a finalist underscores his skill, leadership, and impact both on and off the court.

At Arkansas, Smith Jr. will join 5-star prospect JJ Andrews from Little Rock Christian and 4-star forward Abdou Toure, bolstering the Razorbacks’ recruiting class with versatile talent. Coaches and analysts have praised Smith Jr. for his athleticism, scoring ability, and ability to lead his team in high-pressure situations.

“This is a tremendous honor for Jordan,” said a spokesperson from the University of Arkansas. “Being named a finalist for the Gatorade Player of the Year award reflects not just his skills on the court, but also his dedication to academics and his community. He embodies what this award represents.”

The Gatorade Player of the Year program has recognized outstanding student-athletes since its inception, celebrating individuals who excel in multiple areas of life while representing their schools with distinction. Winners from previous years have gone on to achieve national and professional acclaim, and Smith Jr. has a strong chance to continue that tradition.

As the 2025-26 high school basketball season progresses, attention will continue to focus on Smith Jr.’s performance, as well as the impact he will have at Arkansas. His inclusion as a finalist places him among the elite ranks of high school basketball talent and brings significant attention to both his achievements and his future at the collegiate level.
