Greene County, Arkansas – A stretch of roadway in Greene County has reopened after a serious crash prompted an extended emergency response Saturday evening, briefly disrupting traffic along a busy highway corridor.

Authorities said emergency crews were dispatched to the scene on U.S. Highway 49 near the intersection with Arkansas 69 after reports of a collision came in late in the day. The crash occurred close to Central Baptist Church, an area where traffic often remains steady through the early evening hours.

According to Paragould Emergency Services, the incident was first reported at 5:51 p.m. Responders quickly arrived to assess the situation, secure the area, and begin managing traffic around the crash site. Officials described the collision as serious, though specific details about the number of vehicles involved or potential injuries were not immediately released.

Local law enforcement confirmed that the investigation and response were handled by multiple agencies working together. Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder stated that the Arkansas State Police took the lead in working the crash, a common procedure for major highway incidents.

For more than an hour, traffic in the area was slowed as crews focused on clearing debris, documenting the scene, and ensuring safe conditions for drivers. The cleanup process required careful coordination to prevent further hazards along the busy route.

Officials later confirmed that the roadway was fully cleared at 7:19 p.m., allowing normal traffic flow to resume. By that time, emergency personnel had completed their immediate response duties, and vehicles were once again able to pass through without restrictions.

While authorities have not yet released additional details about what caused the crash, they emphasized the importance of cautious driving, especially during evening hours when visibility can decline and traffic patterns shift.

For residents and commuters, the quick reopening of the highway brought relief, restoring one of the area’s key travel routes after a tense and disruptive evening response.
