Full daytime closure scheduled on Highway 344 west of Magnolia for Beech Creek pipe replacement

Magnolia, Arkansas – Drivers who regularly travel west of Magnolia should prepare for a full daytime closure of a section of Highway 344 on Wednesday, February 11, as crews carry out essential infrastructure work near Beech Creek. Transportation officials say the closure is necessary to safely replace a pipe just west of Columbia County Road 142, a task that cannot be completed while traffic is flowing through the area.

The affected stretch of Highway 344 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., weather permitting. During that time, through traffic will not be allowed to pass the work zone. However, access will remain available for local traffic on either side of the closure, ensuring nearby residents and property owners can still reach their destinations.

Officials emphasized that the temporary shutdown is designed to keep both workers and drivers safe while repairs are underway. The pipe replacement over Beech Creek is part of routine maintenance aimed at preserving the roadway and preventing future damage that could lead to more serious disruptions if left unaddressed.

To help motorists navigate around the closed section, a clearly marked detour will be in place throughout the day. Eastbound drivers on Highway 344 will be redirected north onto Highway 371, then west on Highway 82 before returning to Highway 344. Westbound traffic will follow the opposite route, traveling east on Highway 82, then south on Highway 371 back to Highway 344.

Transportation crews will install digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and additional signage well ahead of the closure to alert drivers and guide them along the detour routes. Motorists are encouraged to slow down near the work zone and follow posted signs carefully, especially during the early morning hours when traffic patterns may feel unfamiliar.

Local officials advise drivers to allow extra travel time if they normally use Highway 344 during the closure period. Those with flexible schedules may wish to plan trips outside the work window or choose alternate routes to avoid delays.

Once work is complete and conditions allow, Highway 344 is expected to reopen fully by the early evening. Until then, officials thank motorists for their patience and cooperation as crews work to complete the project efficiently and safely.
