Mayflower, Arkansas – The City of Mayflower has announced the selection of William E. “Will” Biswell II as its new Fire Chief following an extensive nationwide search aimed at strengthening the city’s emergency response leadership. City officials say Biswell brings decades of experience, a strong training background, and a clear commitment to public safety as he prepares to take on the role later this year.
The hiring process spanned five weeks and attracted candidates from several states, reflecting the city’s effort to find a leader capable of guiding the fire department through future growth and evolving community needs. Panel interviews played a central role in the selection, with an emphasis on leadership ability, hands-on experience, and dedication to professional development.
Biswell arrives in Mayflower with a career marked by 25 years of service in fire and emergency medical services throughout Oklahoma. He most recently retired as Training Major with the Yukon Fire Department, where he was responsible for overseeing fire and EMS education for a 39-member department. During his tenure, he earned two Certificates of Merit recognizing exemplary service and leadership.

In addition to his work in municipal fire service, Biswell’s career includes experience as a Flight Paramedic with Air Evac Lifeteam, a role that exposed him to high-pressure medical situations and rapid-response decision-making. He also served as Director of Emergency Medical Technology at Redlands Community College, where he played a key role in shaping the next generation of emergency medical professionals through education and instruction.
Biswell’s academic background further supports his leadership credentials. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Response Administration from Oklahoma State University–Oklahoma City. His certifications are extensive and include Nationally Registered Paramedic, Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer II, Blue Card Command, and multiple life support instructor credentials. City leaders say this combination of education, field experience, and instructional expertise made him a standout candidate.

City officials believe Biswell’s emphasis on training and preparedness will play an important role in supporting firefighters and emergency responders while ensuring residents receive high-quality emergency services. Leaders also noted that his background in education and leadership aligns with the city’s long-term vision for a modern, well-prepared fire department.
Outside of his professional career, Biswell is known for his involvement in athletics and family life. He is an accomplished softball coach and has earned a national championship, highlighting his dedication to teamwork and mentorship beyond the fire service. He has been married to his wife, Lindsey, for 21 years, and together they have two children.
Biswell is scheduled to officially assume his duties as Fire Chief on Dec. 30, 2025. As he prepares to step into the role, city leaders say they are confident his experience and leadership style will make a positive impact on both the department and the community it serves.
The appointment marks a new chapter for the Mayflower Fire Department, with officials expressing optimism about the future under Biswell’s guidance. With a strong foundation in training, emergency medicine, and leadership, the city says it is well-positioned to continue enhancing public safety services for residents in the years ahead.
