Pine Bluff SWAT and Jefferson County sheriff’s department respond to downtown shooting and standoff

Little Rock, Arkansas – A tense standoff unfolded in downtown Pine Bluff Tuesday afternoon after a shooting prompted a swift response from local law enforcement. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the area of Second and Main Street, drawing officers from the Pine Bluff Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, along with SWAT units to secure the scene.

According to officials, an altercation between a man and a woman escalated into gunfire, leaving the woman injured. She was transported to Jefferson Regional Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Details about the nature of the dispute have not been released, though authorities emphasized that the situation was isolated and public safety remained the top priority.

The male suspect, later identified as Will Jenkins, fled to a nearby residence following the shooting. Officers quickly established a perimeter around the home, taking measures to ensure the safety of residents and bystanders while attempting to gain entry. The standoff prompted heightened law enforcement presence in the area, with SWAT teams coordinating efforts to resolve the situation peacefully.

“This type of situation is always delicate, but our priority is protecting the public while resolving the incident as safely as possible,” said a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities have not released additional information about any potential charges but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Residents in the area reported a heavy police presence and urged neighbors to avoid the vicinity during the standoff. While the immediate threat has passed, officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting and are working to gather statements from witnesses.
