Highway 225 in McGintytown will close for several days to allow drainage replacement work

Arkansas – Motorists traveling on Highway 225 should plan for significant delays next week as the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) implements a full closure between Blackfork Road and Clinton Mountain Road. The closure is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, December 8, and continue through 5 p.m. on Friday, December 12, weather permitting.

The temporary closure will allow crews to replace a drainage structure that has become necessary for road safety and proper water management. While the highway will be closed to through traffic, local traffic will still have limited access on either side of the construction zone.

To assist drivers in navigating around the closure, ARDOT has established a signed detour. Motorists needing to reach the east side of the closure are advised to take Highway 225 (E Main Street) west to Highway 65 (N Broadview Street) north, then continue east on Highway 285 to Blythe Road southeast, reconnecting with Highway 225. Those traveling to the west side should follow Highway 225 east to Blythe Road northwest, then west on Highway 285 to Highway 65 (N Broadview Street) south, back to Highway 225 (E Main Street).

Travelers are encouraged to pay close attention to the digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and other signage placed along the route to provide guidance and ensure safety. “These precautions are in place to keep both the construction crews and the traveling public safe during the work,” ARDOT officials said.

The drainage replacement project is part of a broader effort to maintain Highway 225 and improve infrastructure for McGintytown residents and regional travelers. Crews will work extended hours to complete the project within the scheduled time frame, aiming to minimize disruption while ensuring quality construction.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead, consider alternate routes, and allow extra travel time during the closure period. Delays are expected, especially during morning and evening commutes. Local residents and emergency services have been notified of the detour routes to ensure continued access throughout the week.

The Highway 225 closure represents a critical step in improving transportation infrastructure in McGintytown, ensuring safer roadways and better drainage for years to come. Drivers are reminded that patience and adherence to posted detours are essential during this construction period.
