Two teenagers arrested in Lonoke County after fleeing scene of hit and run near Highway 367

Lonoke County, Arkansas – Two teenagers were arrested Wednesday night in Austin, Arkansas, following a hit and run that sparked a search by Lonoke County authorities. The incident occurred near the intersection of Highway 367 and 305, prompting deputies to respond quickly to the scene.

Officials with the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office said the suspects fled the crash, running into nearby woods while carrying an AR-15. A coordinated effort, including K9 units, helped deputies track down the teens, who were later taken into custody without further incident.

The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old male from Pine Bluff and an 18-year-old female from Benton. Both are currently in custody as the investigation continues. Law enforcement officials have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash or whether anyone was injured.

“This case remains under active investigation,” LCSO officials said, urging the public to avoid speculation as the details continue to emerge.

Authorities praised the rapid response and teamwork involved in apprehending the teens. The involvement of K9 teams was crucial in locating the suspects after they fled into the wooded area, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated search efforts in rural environments.

Deputies have stressed the importance of public safety and cooperation while the investigation is ongoing. They continue to gather evidence to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the hit and run, as well as the role each suspect played.

The Sheriff’s Office has reminded residents that fleeing the scene of an accident, especially while armed, carries serious legal consequences. Authorities are expected to release further updates as the investigation progresses and charges are formally filed against the teens.

The community of Austin and surrounding areas remain on alert as deputies continue to ensure public safety and complete the ongoing investigation. Residents are encouraged to report any additional information related to the incident to assist law enforcement in their work.

This arrest underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in addressing hit and run incidents, particularly when suspects attempt to evade capture while armed, and highlights the importance of rapid, coordinated response in protecting the community.
