Amazon officially begins construction on a massive new logistics facility at the Port of Little Rock, set to create over 1,000 jobs for Arkansans

Little Rock, Arkansas – A major economic milestone is underway in Arkansas’s capital city as Amazon officially begins construction on a sprawling new logistics facility at the Port of Little Rock. The development, which will cover more than 900,000 square feet, is expected to generate more than 1,000 new jobs, marking one of the largest employment boosts in the area in recent years.

The groundbreaking marks the beginning of what local leaders hope will be a long and transformative relationship between the global tech and logistics giant and the city of Little Rock. Although the city wasn’t chosen for Amazon’s high-profile HQ2 project years ago, local officials remained hopeful—and that persistence appears to be paying off.

“This is going to be an important link in our logistics network, helping us to efficiently process incoming inventory before it gets distributed to our fulfillment centers,” said Andrea Vava, Vice President of U.S. Public Policy at Amazon.

The project itself has been years in the making, going back to the 2017 “Love Little Rock” campaign, which caught Amazon’s attention despite the city not fully meeting HQ2 requirements. Since then, the Port of Little Rock has become a magnet for investment and development, laying the groundwork for this moment.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders emphasized the significance of the project, calling it a prime example of how Arkansas continues to attract major business investments.

“Groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, jobs and investment announcements, you name it, we have done everything right here at this location,” she said.

Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde echoed the excitement and noted the momentum already underway.

“I think that we can look forward to more investment based on how much we’ve seen occurred in just the last 11 years,” Hyde remarked.

City leaders say the impact of the facility extends beyond jobs. It brings renewed attention to the Port of Little Rock as a hub for industry and innovation. Local officials also confirmed that planning is already underway for another large-scale development directly across from the Amazon site—further suggesting that the area could become a critical economic engine for central Arkansas.

The new facility is expected to play a key role in Amazon’s growing supply chain network, handling massive volumes of incoming products that will be sorted and delivered to fulfillment centers across the region. For Little Rock, it represents more than just a warehouse—it’s a signal of long-term economic growth, and a vote of confidence from one of the world’s most powerful companies.

As construction ramps up, residents and officials alike are hopeful this is just the beginning of a broader transformation for the region.
