Pine Bluff Police open investigation after man found dead in yard on South Spruce Street

Pine Bluff, Florida – The Pine Bluff Police Department has officially launched a homicide investigation after a man was found dead on the city’s south side Friday afternoon. Authorities responded to a call for service around 3:21 p.m. on July 18, which led officers to the 1200 block of South Spruce Street.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of 36-year-old Marquis Avery lying in the yard of a residence. Police quickly confirmed that Avery had been killed, though specifics on how the incident unfolded remain scarce.

So far, investigators have not shared any information about possible suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Detectives continue to work the scene and gather evidence, but for now, the circumstances surrounding Avery’s death remain unclear.

As of Saturday, police have not offered any updates about what may have led to the violence or whether the victim had any connection to the people who live in the home where his body was found. Neighbors say they are rattled by the heavy police presence and saddened by the news of another violent crime in the community.

Police are now asking for the public’s help as they work to solve this case. They are encouraging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who has any information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the detective office tip line at (870) 730-2106, the detective office at (870) 730-2090, or the dispatch center at (870) 541-5300.”
