Applications are officially open for the Transportation-Related Research and Workforce Development Grant Program with a focus on advancing transportation innovation and education

Arkansas – Applications are now being accepted for the Transportation-Related Research & Workforce Development Grant Program (TRRWDGP), which offers funding to support projects that focus on advancing the transportation sector in Arkansas. This grant, authorized by Act 705 of 2017 and Act 884 of 2021, is designed to foster innovation, education, and workforce development in the transportation industry, but it cannot be used for highway improvements.

The TRRWDGP aims to accomplish two key objectives. First, it supports the study of materials, methods, and processes that can contribute to the development of more resilient and sustainable logistics systems, materials, and methods. The goal is to enhance the cost-effectiveness of transportation systems while promoting economic growth and educational opportunities. Second, the program aims to support workforce development through training, apprenticeships, and educational programs for personnel working in transportation-related fields.

The grant program is funded through interest income from the State Highway and Transportation Department Fund, with up to $500,000 available each year. This funding is intended to support a wide range of projects, including research on innovative transportation materials, sustainable practices, and workforce training initiatives. However, it is important to note that the grant cannot be used for highway improvement projects, as the focus is specifically on research and workforce development in transportation.

Applications for the TRRWDGP can be submitted online through the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s website at www.ardot.gov/trrwdgp/ or by email to [email protected]. The deadline for applications is July 2, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., and all applications must be received by that time to be considered for funding.

As the transportation industry continues to evolve, the TRRWDGP provides essential resources to support the growth and development of new technologies and a skilled workforce. This grant program is a valuable tool for those committed to advancing transportation research and building a sustainable, future-ready workforce.
