Garland County man with prior child sex crime conviction arrested again for violating conditions of his parole

Garland County, Arkansas – A local man with a prior conviction for child sex crimes is back in custody after allegedly violating the terms of his parole, according to officials from Garland County and state correctional authorities.

Zachary Nehus, a registered sex offender and former school teacher, was arrested this week after officers with the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections (ACC) in the Hot Springs Division reached out to the Garland County Sheriff’s Office. The agencies collaborated after concerns arose regarding Nehus’s compliance with parole conditions.

Authorities say Nehus had been convicted in 2016 for possessing child sexual abuse materials, a charge that led to his registration as a sex offender and subsequent parole supervision. Since that time, he has remained under the supervision of state corrections as an active parolee.

During a recent investigation into Nehus’s activities, agents reportedly discovered sufficient evidence tied to child sexual abuse materials that warranted further action. That evidence ultimately led to his arrest.

While the specific nature of the evidence has not been publicly detailed, law enforcement indicated that the findings were serious enough to justify a parole violation charge and an immediate return to custody. No new charges have been announced as of now, though the case remains under active investigation.

Officials have not released additional information about whether Nehus’s alleged actions involved contact with minors or whether the materials were distributed. The Arkansas Department of Community Corrections and the Garland County Sheriff’s Office are expected to continue working together on the case.

Nehus’s arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing parole supervision and community reporting in cases involving registered sex offenders. Authorities say they are committed to ensuring that those under supervision are held accountable for any further misconduct.

Further updates are expected as the investigation develops.
