Concerns grow as fraudulent toll road text messages continue to target Arkansas residents

Arkansas – A resurfacing scam targeting mobile phone users has once again surfaced in Arkansas, with fraudulent text messages impersonating toll service providers. The scam, which first appeared in the state in 2024, is now making a return, raising alarms among residents.

On February 27, 2025, the Arkansas Attorney General’s office issued a public alert to warn Arkansans about the deceptive messages. These fraudulent texts claim the recipient owes unpaid toll fees and provide a link to a payment portal. The problem? Arkansas does not have toll roads, making these messages completely false.

Attorney General Tim Griffin emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against such scams. “If you get one of these texts, please fill out the robocall reporting form on my website, and do not send payment to any entity that only contacts you via text,” Griffin urged. His office has made it clear that these messages are part of a broader effort to steal personal information and trick individuals into making unauthorized payments.

The fraudulent texts often look convincing, making it easy for individuals to mistake them for legitimate communication from toll agencies. However, since there are no toll roads in Arkansas, anyone receiving such messages should immediately recognize them as a scam.

Arkansans who receive these messages are urged to report them to the Attorney General’s office using the online robocall reporting form. The office also encourages residents to remain cautious about any unsolicited communications, especially those requesting payments or personal details.

In an effort to stop the spread of this scam, the Attorney General’s office has made public announcements and continues to monitor the situation. To learn more about how to protect yourself or report a scam, individuals can visit the official reporting page on the Arkansas Attorney General’s website.

This resurgence of toll road-related scam messages serves as a reminder for Arkansans to stay alert and cautious when dealing with unsolicited texts or calls, particularly those that request sensitive financial information.
