Jefferson County authorities investigate submerged vehicle recovered near regional park softball complex

Jefferson County, Arkansas – On March 13, 2025, a team from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) successfully recovered a submerged vehicle from a waterway near the Regional Park Softball Complex in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The recovery followed a tip from another law enforcement agency, which led the JCSO Criminal Investigations Division to investigate a potential submerged vehicle in a creek behind the softball complex.

Lieutenant Dennis Kendal, the Commander of the JCSO Criminal Investigations Division, took charge of the operation, assisted by the JCSO Dive Team. With the use of specialized equipment and dive team expertise, Kendal and his team were able to locate and retrieve the vehicle from the water. After further investigation, it was confirmed that the submerged vehicle was a 1997 Nissan Altima.

Fortunately, there were no individuals inside the vehicle, and the investigation revealed that it was empty. Now, authorities are working to determine the circumstances behind the vehicle’s presence in the water. Investigators plan to locate the registered owner of the car in an effort to uncover any further details related to the incident.

This recovery is part of the ongoing efforts by the JCSO to investigate and resolve any unusual or suspicious occurrences in the community. The dive team’s swift and successful action ensured the safe removal of the vehicle, helping authorities take the first steps toward understanding what led to the car being submerged in the creek.

At this time, there is no indication of foul play, but the investigation is still ongoing. The JCSO has committed to keeping the public informed as more details emerge.
