Texarkana Regional Airport welcomes Governor Sanders for tour following $16.7 million investment

Texarkana. Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders visited the Texarkana Regional Airport on Thursday, marking a significant step forward for the region’s aviation infrastructure. The visit comes after the governor helped secure $16.7 million in funding for vital airport improvements in August.

During her tour, Governor Sanders highlighted the positive impact the investment will have on the local economy, emphasizing the potential for job creation and increased tourism.

“It’s incredible to see the town I once called home take off. The investment will improve the airport’s infrastructure and bring more jobs and visitors to the entire region,” said Governor Sanders. “This critical infrastructure investment is the type of economic development project we need to bring in new industry and grow this area.”

The funding will be used to expand the airport’s runway and taxiways, making it capable of handling larger aircraft, including the Boeing 777. The improvements will also allow the airport to take on cargo operations and maintenance repair overhaul (MRO) work, enhancing Texarkana’s role in regional and national air transportation.

In addition to runway expansion, plans are in motion to construct 175,000 square feet of hangar space, an estimated $35 million project. This new infrastructure is expected to attract new businesses and industries, further cementing Texarkana’s position as a growing economic hub.

The airport has already seen major improvements with the opening of the Jim E. Yates Terminal earlier this year. The state-of-the-art facility, which cost $49 million to build, is twice the size of the previous terminal constructed in 1960. It features modern amenities, including jet bridges, additional gates, and an upgraded baggage-handling system, enhancing the travel experience for passengers.

Governor Sanders’ visit underscores her administration’s commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth. The improvements at Texarkana Regional Airport not only strengthen the region’s transportation network but also position it for long-term success in aviation and commerce.

With construction and expansion projects moving forward, local officials and business leaders are optimistic about the opportunities these investments will bring. The airport’s growth signals a promising future, making Texarkana an increasingly attractive destination for business and travel alike.
