Apartments nearly restored after fire

Brookland, Arkansas – The restoration of the Whitten Creek apartments that were set on fire more than a year ago is almost complete.

The apartment complex lost roughly ten apartments in the January 19 fire. The road has been lengthy, according to Anna Hitchcock, the property manager.

The construction has been going extremely well, and it’s been wonderful to watch it return to its previous splendor, if not slightly better. “We had a little setback because our risers for the roof were about four inches short,” she added.

Hitchcock added that the units ought to be available shortly.

In addition to renting them out, we’re looking at Wednesday of this coming week to let people move into those apartments as well,” she said. “We definitely want to do an event with the residents just saying we finally made it through construction and we’re all 288 units back up and running again.”

After the massive fire on Friday morning left many citizens without a place to dwell, businesses and organizations are being provided assistance.

Around 9 a.m. that morning, the Philadelphia, Jonesboro, and Southern Greene County Fire Departments were called to a structure fire, according to John Burns of the Brookland Fire Department.

According to one witness, flames were visible emanating from Building 300’s summit.

According to Burns, workers think that one of the unit’s balconies is where the fire began. He stated that 42 firefighters and 12 fire trucks were needed to extinguish the fire.

According to Burns, there was water and smoke damage in eight of the building’s sixteen apartments.

Almost everyone managed to escape without incident.
