After 36 years, the superintendent of the Benton School District announces his retirement

Benton, Arkansas – At the conclusion of the academic year, Benton School District Superintendent Dr. Kim Anderson declared her intention to resign.

Last Friday, January 17, Anderson made the announcement. The date of her retirement is June 30, 2025.

During her nearly 36 years as an educator, Anderson made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve the Benton School District over the past eight years,” Anderson stated. “I sincerely appreciate the board’s steadfast support and the confidence you have placed in me as your superintendent. Our success is largely due to our hardworking staff and exceptional students, and I am incredibly thankful to have shared in this incredible adventure.”

For the past three years, Anderson has been the district’s superintendent. She formerly served as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, where her responsibilities included managing testing, Career and Technical Education, English Learners, Gifted and Talented, homeless services, and federal programs.

Anderson started her career in education, working for 13 years as a professional development coordinator, school improvement specialist, technology coordinator, and library media specialist.
She has a master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a PhD from Arkansas State University.

As the vice president of the Dawson Co-op Board, a member of the legislative curriculum committee, and an active member of AAEA, Anderson’s influence goes beyond the district.
