Nonprofit in Little Rock The Van encounters a problem when buying a shelter

Little Rock, Arkansas – The Van, a local charity organization that has received a lot of donations, has had yet another roadblock in its attempt to purchase a building.

The group, which had a contract for an 8,000- to 10,000-square-foot structure that would have served as both a year-round thrift store and an emergency shelter for adverse weather, received more than $125,000 in November from contributors.

Executive Director Aaron Reddin stated on Friday that a significant issue arose when he tried to formally buy the Arch Street property.

“We found a building and entered into a contract with the person we believed to be the building’s owner, but it wasn’t,” Reddin explained.

Given the rapidly approaching freezing conditions, Reddin said this couldn’t have happened at a worse moment.

Nearly 700 individuals in the capital city, he added, are in need of somewhere to go when the weather is bad.

Reddin stated that he is making every effort to locate a new location that he can either buy or lease as quickly as possible.
