Mayor of Alexander dismisses police chief, community responds

Alexander, Arkansas – Today, the Alexander Chief of Police and his administration were dismissed, leaving many in the community surprised by the sudden development.

During the city council meeting on Monday night, Alexander Chief of Police Robert Burnett presented his report on ongoing investigations and service calls for the month. The meeting captured a moment where someone expressed gratitude for his efforts, leading to a round of applause from many attendees.

During the same meeting, Alexander Mayor Crystal Herrmann acknowledged the police and fire departments, expressing her appreciation after receiving remarks about their “well-equipped” status.

“I take great pride in both departments for that,” Herrmann stated.

On Tuesday, the mayor dismissed Alexander’s chief of police, assistant chief of police, and administration sergeant, as confirmed by the mayor’s office manager/HR director.

Upon being questioned about her statement, she replied, “Their services were no longer needed.”

The mayor subsequently expressed that she is “guiding the department towards a new path.”

Alexander’s community was taken by surprise by this change.

“In my opinion, he performed well out here,” remarked a local resident named Lee.

Members of the community shared their disappointment upon learning about the firings of Burnett and others, noting that the timing is particularly difficult with the holidays approaching.

A number of individuals expressed their doubts regarding the actual motive behind the duty release.

“I would speculate that it’s likely not accurate,” another resident, Roy, remarked. “To the best of my knowledge, that mayor is likely mistaken.”

City Councilwoman Juanita Wilson issued a statement expressing her disapproval of the mayor’s decision.

“Our police force in Saline County is exceptional.” According to the statement, “Our chief and Jessica, the assistant chief of police, have been serving for over nine years, earning the respect of judges, various police departments, the FBI, the DOJ, and numerous federal agencies for their exemplary work.” “They have never received a complaint, as their work is truly exceptional!”
The mayor is at fault and should be held accountable for jeopardizing the safety of this city and its residents! She is the most inadequate mayor Alexander has ever experienced!

“According to Lee, the mayor has only contributed to the city’s decline since taking office.”

The office manager and HR director for the mayor confirmed that the Alexander Police Department remains operational, with officers available to respond to 911 calls.

Robert Burnett, the former chief of police, along with Jessica Burnett, the former assistant chief of police, have chosen not to comment while they pursue legal counsel.
