Little Rock, Arkansas – On Thursday, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin presented awards to recognize the dedication and service of law enforcement officers in the Natural State, acknowledging their commitment to the community.

Awards were presented to officers who were nominated by various counties, regions, and distinguished services during the event.

Chief Deputy John Cutrell of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized as the Statewide Officer of the Year for his efforts in assisting multiple victims and supporting paramedics during the mass shooting incident at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce this summer.

Cutrell stated that his training equipped him well, and he never hesitated to assist those in need.
“They form a cohesive group, collaborating effectively, and they exhibit a robust sense of community,” Cutrell stated. “Engage in it out of passion, immerse yourself in the community, and remain committed to that.”

Griffin praised Cutrell for showing remarkable bravery amidst turmoil, calling him a hero.

Griffin stated, “The actions of Chief Deputy Cutrell on that day are the reason the victim is alive.” “Amidst chaos and violence, Chief Deputy Cutrell exhibited remarkable strength, compassion, and courage.” That day in Fordyce, he stood out as one of many heroes, embodying the finest qualities of law enforcement in our state.

At the award ceremony, a tribute honoring valor was presented to the families of the fallen officers.
