As a tribute to her father, the former Miss Arkansas is advocating for the HEARTS Act

Little Rock, Arkansas – The American Heart Association reports that children facing cardiac arrest have a sevenfold increase in survival chances when their school is equipped with an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The Anthony Hobbs Act in Arkansas sets up school-based CPR and AED programs, and former Miss Arkansas Cori Keller is advocating for legislation to implement these programs in every school.

Keller and her father are sharing their story to advocate for programs accessible to every school across America.

As Keller celebrated her victory as Miss Arkansas 2023 in front of a large crowd, the one individual she wished could share in her joy was in the hospital battling for his life.

Keller stated, “I had been an advocate for the American Heart Association regarding nutrition access programs.” “However, my advocacy became significantly more personal due to our family’s connection with heart disease.”

In 2023, while she was actively advocating with the American Heart Association in Washington D.C., her father, Lynn Keller, received a diagnosis of heart disease. Two days later, he underwent open heart surgery, and amidst everything, she was crowned Miss Arkansas.
Lynn is now in good health, passionately serving as the voice of the Stuttgart Ricebirds football team.

A father and daughter are sharing their story to promote the HEARTS Act.

Keller stated, “The HEARTS Act aims to enhance the availability of AEDs, establish cardiac emergency response plans, and provide hands-on CPR training in public school facilities.”

A new initiative aims to establish a grant program within the United States Department of Health and Human Services, focusing on the promotion of CPR and AED training.

In September, the bipartisan bill received unanimous approval in the House, and the next step is the Senate, where there are hopes for its passage by the end of the year.

“We encourage you to contact your senator to express your support for this bill, aiming to inspire Arkansas to prioritize the protection of one another,” Keller stated.

Their aim is for this legislation to create more unforgettable experiences for everyone in the United States.

Keller expressed, “That moment was incredibly special to receive.” “Achieving one of my greatest dreams and celebrating it with my dad, while reflecting on our journey as a family in the fight against heart disease.”
